Inside my pantry

A while ago I came across a blog with photos of other people's pantry's.   And today the nice people at the perfect pantry have featured mine.  My mother probably won't quite believe that I have turned out to be a pretty organized person who cooks a lot.

8 more months

It looks like we are headed to the great white north this summer.  I have not super loved Malaysia but there some things I will miss.

I will miss Suzie's corner, which has the world's best dinner.

I will miss lime juice.

I will miss the wide variety of different ethnic groups.  Coming from China where almost everyone is Han Chinese, it is nice.

I will miss our beautiful pool and fancy apartment.

I will also miss never having to look at the weather.  It is always the same.  90+ with high humidity, every single day.  It is nice not having to change clothing every season because there are no seasons.  Same same.

Things that make life easier

This past year I have really started to appreciate some of what the internet has to offer.  Here are some of my favorites for varying reasons.

facebook - I can easily keep in touch with friends and some family without having to do much work.  My SIL has a slight addiction problem to FB (in a good way!), so I love hearing about what my two nieces are up to.

bloglines - a zillion times better than having to actually go check all the blogs I read.

ravelry - I knit.  Every knitter should join.  It is that good.

delicious - a great way to keep track of things without having a zillion bookmarks.  I keep track of kids craft projects, egg free cooking ideas, my craft projects and so on.

And finally simple mom - I am a stay at home mother at the moment.  I am not allowed to work in my host country, but I am pretty certian I would have stayed home anyway with the little ones still little.  simple mom has some ideas and tips on how to be a better home manager which is nice to read about since we still live in maidland and I am unusual in not having one.

The cooking

Someone asked me what I did all day recently.  It would seem I cook.  Here is what we had for dinner all week - all homemade, nothing pre-made or out of a box.

Chicken fajitas
Pasta with salad and cheese straws
Chinese food - gong bao chicken, rice and twice fried green beans
Grilled lemon chicken with rosemary potatoes
And tonight - home made pizza with green pepper and pepperoni

All that plus the egg free pumpkin muffins, the egg free applesauce brownies, the apple pear crisp and the egg free banana sour cream muffins.  All the muffins are for Luke's lunchbox.  Food labeling in Malaysia is lax at best.  Now with the carregnan allergy feeding him from the local store is almost impossible.  Can't wait for my next Amazon order to get here....yogurt maker, new indoor grill and other kitchen items.

I need to figure out more to put in his lunchbox.  No peanuts allowed and no pork.  It is a big pain feeding him here.  We found out this week we could even curtail for medical need because of it - that and Brussels keeps emailing about a NOW position....too bad we are not really ready to leave and it would screw up the oldest for high school.

Good first day

I guess Luke had a good first day.  There was no note telling me otherwise in the teacher-parent notebook.  Luke said he only had one time out, because he tried to leave and may have called his teacher a 'loser'  he was a little vague on the details....

He also got a great nap in - the bus ride home took an hour and a half because it was raining.  When it rains here, Malaysia forget how to drive apparently.

Some photos from the Zoo Negara which is still a little death trap like....

1st day of school

Today is Luke's first full day of Prep. Senior or kindergarten.  He was all smiles as he hopped on the bus with the other kids this morning.  Hopefully he will be all smiles when he hops back off it this afternoon!

Beijing Olympics

I love this video!  I think I love it because it makes China look pretty and clean AND I can understand a lot of it!  I totally stole it from Kimbery - thanks!

I will add that at no time in the long footage is the sky actually a real sky blue.  Very interesting....
